Obituary of Charlotte E. Salisbury

Charlotte Etta (Butler) Salisbury was born June 15, 1922, to Charles A. and Marion (Hodgdon) Butler in Camden, Maine. She was a graduate of Crosby High School in Belfast. She married her love, Lesley E. Salisbury of Northport, on February 15, 1941. Lesley enlisted in the US Army during WWII, and Charlotte followed him to various stations and ports of call around the country. After his military discharge, they returned to Waldo County and built their “forever” home in Northport. They raised 3 children: Charleen (George) Drinkwater, Patsy (Herman Jr.) Littlefield and Lucy Salisbury, all of Northport. They in turn graced them with 9 grandchildren: Robert Drinkwater Sr. of Belfast; Kathy (John) Dunham of Waldo; Beverly (Stephen Sr.) Flagg of Belmont; Jeffrey Littlefield of Northport; Kevin (Jaci) Littlefield of Northport; Leslie Nickerson of Belfast; Susan (Charlie) Greene of Belmont; Randi (Jesse) Nickerson of Belfast; and Harold (Angela) Drinkwater of Northport. And then along came 22 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was a great “Nana” to all. There are many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by a brother, Stanley Butler of Belfast. She was pre-deceased by her husband Lesley Salisbury, parents Charles A. and Marion Butler of Stockton Springs and Belfast, sisters Betty Branlund of California and Irene Dekanich of Belfast, and brother Albert Butler of Belfast. She was a charter member of the Northport VFW Post #6131 Auxiliary. She had been a member of the Grand View Grange in Northport over the years. She worked at a variety of jobs while following her husband during his military service. She was then primarily a homemaker while raising their children. This meant her house and yard were the local gathering centers for the neighborhood children. She was last employed at the Waldo County General Hospital in the Housekeeping and Linen Room for 15+ years. After retirement she and her husband enjoyed camping and traveling around the great State of Maine. Charlotte was an avid crafter which continued right up until the time of her death. She also enjoyed playing cards, reading, watching game shows, bird watching and chatting with friends. Memorial service will be held at Riposta Funeral Home on March 16th at 11 a.m., officiated by Pastor Jinwoo Chun of the Belfast United Methodist Church. All are invited to join the family in a Celebration of Life at the Northport VFW Post on Route 1 in Northport following the service. Interment will be at the East Northport Cemetery in the spring.
