Obituary of Morris A. Smith

MORRIS A. SMITH SR., 86 of Liberty, passed away on February 20, 2019 at Sussman House in Rockport. He was born on February 16, 1933 in Hallowell, Maine the son of Arland and Dorothy (Packard) Smith. Morris attended school in Searsmont and lived with his aunt and uncle, Ira and Marietta Packard. He moved with his twin brother to Lompoc, California where they attended high school and then joined the military. Morris served in the U.S. Air Force as a mechanic. Morris returned to Maine where he met his wife, Shirley Scates, and they were married in 1958. He worked for Bonnar-Vawter Inc. in Rockland for 21 years as an offset printer. Later working for Sprowl Bros. and Robbins Lumber until his retirement. In his spare time, Morris enjoyed hunting, fishing and listening to classical music. He and his wife attended Liberty Baptist Church for many years. He is predeceased by his parents; his sisters Hildred and Norma. Morris is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Shirley, of Liberty; twin brother Robert Smith of Highland, CA; his daughter Lori Kurr and husband Jesse of Rockland; grandchildren Elisabeth and David Kurr; his son Morris Jr. and wife Michelle of Indianapolis; granddaughter Danicka Beckley and husband Matt, and four great grandchildren. Visiting for family and friends will be from 10 -11 am at Liberty Baptist Church on Saturday March 2, 2019 where a funeral will be held at 11 am. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Liberty Baptist Church Building Fund. Interment will be held in the spring at East Palermo Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Windward Gardens and Sussman House for their wonderful care of Morris. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home.
