Obituary of Roger L. Thompson

Roger L. Thompson, 80, of Wells died on January 1, 2019. He was born in Sanford on April 17, 1938 the son of Victor and Jennie (Reynolds) Thompson. Roger attended Maine Central Institute graduating class of 1957. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1961 and served his country for 20 years in many places such as Germany, Okinawa, Thailand, North Dakota, California and lastly in New Hampshire where he retired from Pease Air Force base in 1981. Roger owned and operated Tom’s Trim and Upholstery in Pittsfield for 34 years after which he closed the business and retired. He spent time manicuring his property and enjoying the wildlife and bird watching. Roger moved to Arizona for a couple of years before coming home to Maine to spend time with his family. Although Roger never had children of his own, he loved children and spending time with them. Mostly recently he resided at Avita of Wells where he enjoyed the company of both the residents and staff who fondly referred to him as the “gentle giant.” He was also a lifelong member of the Mason’s. He is predeceased by his parents, sister Evelyn Brooks; brother’s in law Weldon Humphrey, Harland Allen. Roger is survived by his siblings Beverly Allen of North Berwick, Marilyn Humphrey-Badger of Hartland, Keith Thompson of Morrill; numerous Nieces and nephews and close friend Tom. A funeral service will be held on Saturday January 12, 2019 at 10 am at Riposta Funeral home 182 Waldo Ave. Belfast, where a reception will follow. The interment will be private at Maine Veterans Cemetery Augusta, Me. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children Attn: Office of Development 2900 N.
