To Johns Family, A friend of mine, Bobby Stocker, who was a friend of Johns wrote me that John had what we call in the Navy gone on Eternal Patrol.I was born and brought up in Shapleigh, Maine . John was about 5 or 6 years older but I remember times when he was around hanging out with Bobby or when he was with his Step Dad, Vernon Walker the Game Warden and my dad would be talking to them. Bobby told me John had written a few books so I went online and found and ordered them.I can’t wait till I receive and start reading them. My family and I return to Maine almost every year and have been staying in Wells Beach and just recently up on Mousam Lake not far from where we lived at one time. I have been gone from Maine for almost 48 years but I miss it, especially the outdoors that John was so passionate about. From a fellow Veteran I thank John for his service and my deepest condolences go out to his wife and son and their families, Steve Walmsley

I met John when I coordinated speakers and vendors for Penobscot Fly Fishers outdoor show. He came and spoke at the club many times and each time his humor and love of life came through. He loved life, he loved people and he always looked for good in people. Although really an acquaintance of mine John considered me a friend for which I am honored . There are a lot of us acquaintance friends out there because that is who John was. He will be missed by many and I extend to John’s family my sincerest condolences on behalf of many of his friends.

He always referred to you as his Judy as compared to my Judy. . We agreed we were blessed to have you both and further we would not be attending each other’s funerals. We are following things from Virgina where we are doing Thanksgiving with the family. We will be in touch with you when we return to Maine. I am sure the service will be packed with Wardens and poachers alike. .

My deepest sympathy to John's son, wife and family and friends who knew him. I am one of the many facebook friends that John had. I so enjoyed his daily postings regarding wildlife and yes even politics. W I will miss his daily postings and his humor the most. I really don't think that John really knew just how much he touched people. I will always remember him fondly. RIP John, you will be missed by many.

To Judy and John Jr... I think I first met John at my parents place at the farm on the Pierce Hill Road in Montville. John spent some of his "rookie hours" chasing down unlawful snowmobile riders using the town road which ended those days at my parents driveway, then discontinued road up the Hill. It was the ideal spot...he parked his truck sideways just beyond the house and sat with my Mom and Dad in their kitchen drinking coffee and watching thru the picture window . Mother manned the camera and John took down registration numbers (So they said) I suspect they knew they had been caught when they met up with his truck. I suspect they got warnings as he was a kind, fair Warden. It worked...folks from then on used the trail we had provided over on the side of the road.. From that point on...I was always that "damn Democrat" and he was that trouble making Republican....As Judy said once at a famous eatery in Belfast..."John will to STOP getting him riled up.. RIP my friend..

Shirley Cushman I first met John when he was a rookie warden and my son Robert then 5 and a little neighbor girl got lost in the woods after dark in waldo. He was the one that found them and brought him home. He was always kind. He always made a donation of his art to our local snowmobile club auction. He always spoke when I saw him and always had a smile. He will be missed. R.I.P. John. My thoughts and prayers go to Judy and John, Jr.

To John's Family, We are so very sorry for your loss. John was a true gentleman and so patient. His intervention in his special way kept my Dad home where he belonged after he shot at a car of poachers!! They were forever friends after that!! His books were like reading about our own lives and how wardens protect us and the wildlife!! May you have some comfort knowing he was loved and appreciated by so many!! The Palmer/Thornton Family
