Obituary of Gloria Jean Bailey

Gloria Jean (Benner) Bailey of Belfast passed away at her home on July 16, 2018 at the age of 76. Gloria was born on June 13, 1942, in Belfast to Earl William (Bill) and Doris (Kelley) Benner. She graduated from Crosby High School in 1961 (Gloria's nickname in school was Chickie) and married Roland (Butch) Bailey in 1962; they had two children together. She was a mother that worked various jobs through the years. She was a teacher at head start, worked the line at Stinson Canning and then made shoes at Waldo Shoe. Later on she was a machine operator at Pro Machine in Lincolnville and W.S. Enterprises in Coopers Mills, where she retired. After retiring Gloria enjoyed her home, her flowers and bird watching, so much so she would call her neighbors wanting to know where the hummingbirds were sighted. She also loved playing Beano occasionally at the Belfast McDonalds, drinking coffee at the Belfast Co-Op, watching boat and foot traffic downtown, crossword puzzles and watching the Fox News Channel. Gloria and her mother, Doris, were always on the road going out to eat and shopping on the weekends. She always welcomed any family and friends that stopped by for a visit. Gloria was predeceased by her parents, several uncles, cousins and two special Springer Spaniels, Lacey and Lilly. She leaves behind her children, Shawn Bailey and his wife Susan of Belfast, Penney Bailey of Belfast, grandchild Jayme Riley and husband Bruce Riley, Jr. of Searsmont, brother John Benner and his wife Belinda, and many cousins. The family would like to thank doctors James Delehanty and David Ferguson for the care they provided. Gloria also spoke fondly of Mia. A graveside service will be announced at a later date.
