Obituary of Merle Potter

BELFAST MERLE (BANKS) POTTER, 96 of Belfast, passed away on June 18, 2018. She was born on May 13, 1922 in Liberty, Maine, the daughter of Charles and Hannah (Bagley) Banks. Merle graduated from Crosby High School, Class of 1939. She married James Potter July 4, 1942 and they started their family of four children. Merle worked at Anderson Elementary School for many years cooking in the kitchen until taking a job at Home Supply as a cashier where she stayed for 20 years until retiring. Merle had to stay busy so she took another job at Viking working with her sister, Marie, for another 20 years. In her spare time she enjoyed time knitting, crocheting and cooking for everyone in her family. She is predeceased by her parents; her husband, two granddaughters, Stefani and Nicole and her brothers Richard, Wilfred and Robert Banks. Merle is survived by her children Carroll Watmough and husband Harold of Rockport, Sandra Way of Belfast, Don Potter and wife Linda of Morrill, Brenda MacLeod and husband Warren of Morrill; her sister Marie Weymouth of Belfast; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting hours will be held from 10-11 am on Saturday, June 23rd at Riposta Funeral Home with a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Those who wish may make donations in her memory to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
