Obituary of Miles Delcuze Gray

Miles Delcuze Gray, Sept. 17, 1936, to March 26, 2018. Miles was born in Gulfport, Miss., in 1936 to Laura (Delcuze) and Andrew Gray. He graduated from Glen Cove High School on Long Island, N.Y., in 1955 and Mississippi State University in 1962 with a degree in civil engineering. In a long and varied career, Miles worked on the Saturn 7 to 14 rockets at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the STAR Wars missile defense system for the Department of Energy and was a senior scientist at the Hanford Declassification Project. He found time in between to coach his son's soccer teams, take the family out for adventures on his 36-foot Chris-Craft, open an antique mall, serve on the local school board in Belfast in retirement and be the host and life of the party at many a celebration throughout the years. He was a truly gentle man. Miles will be remembered with love and humor by his wife of 42 years, Mary F. Gray. He had three children from his first marriage: Miles Delcuze Gray Jr., Laura Strappel and Ben Gray. From his second marriage his step-children include Susan Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Mark Johnson (deceased), Michael Johnson and John Johnson. A funeral service will be held at Riposta Funeral Home Saturday, March 31, at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow at Penobscot Shores, 10 Shoreland Drive, Belfast.
