Obituary of Constance King Barnes

CONSTANCE KING BARNES, died March 5, 2018 in Belfast. She was born December 12, 1920 in Bangor, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Maurice P. King. Connie was a graduate of Bangor High School in 1939 and a graduate of Lasell Jr. College in 1941. She obtained her B.A. in Spanish from the University of Maine, Class of 1943. In June 1942 she married Dana H. Barnes Jr. who passed away on December 23, 2006. During her musical career Connie studied harp with Bernard Zighera of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She also attended the Salzedo Harp Colony in Camden, Maine for several summers. While in her junior year at the University of Maine, Connie was second harpist with the Bangor Symphony and was guest soloist at their last 1942 concert. For several years, she taught first grade in Newton, Massachusetts and in Nyack, New York. In 1958 she graduated from Boston University with a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. Connie leaves very close friends, Ann Marie and James McCarthy of Wilmington NC and Mrs. Phyllis Gaul of Searsport, Maine. There will be no service. Her ashes will be interred in the family plot at Mt Hope. Because of her great love of animals, those wishing to do so may donate to the Waldo County Humane Society, PO Box 479, Belfast, ME 04915. Contributions will be used to benefit their spay-neuter fund or added to the Madeline M. King and Constance K. Barnes Scholarship fund to aide a Waldo County graduate to attend a veterinarian school. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, Belfast.
