I will always cherish my memories of Uncle Max. His was a well-lived life. He served his country as one of "The Greatest Generation," married a beautiful woman and raised a wonderful family. Sending love and hugs to my Maine cousins and Aunt Helen. Darla Gillette

I didn’t know Max well, but I remember being told that when his daughter, Gayle, married my brother, Andy, that he said that he couldn’t have handpicked a better husband for Gayle. On my third date with the man who was to become my husband, Gayle and Andy’s families and friends celebrated the Fourth of July at the camp that Andy had built on our family island in Unity. I remember Max patiently churning homemade ice cream, the first time I’d ever seen anyone do that. It turned out very well. Max was an accomplished person and very proud of his family. My brother married into what became a large, extended family full of love and laughter and devotion to each other and God. Max and his wife, Helen, always greeted me and my family warmly whenever our paths crossed. We’re glad that his passing was pain-free and gentle. Jude Gagner, for my family: Ward Gagner and Deanna Lee

Max was a gentle giant. Although we did not see him often, when we did see him we saw how gentle and loving he was with his grandchildren. As i watched his gentleness i wished i had had a grandfather as loving as him. He will be greatly missed.
