Obituary of Ethel M. Pattee

PATTEE, Ethel M. (Raven), 98, of Brooks died at Harbor Hill in Belfast on April 2, 2017. She was born on April 13, 1918 in Knox, the daughter of William and N. Pearl (Carmichael) Raven. She grew up in Knox and graduated from Freedom Academy in Freedom in 1936. She married Clayton E. Pattee on October 13, 1940. Ethel worked for many years in the pants factory and in shoe factories in Belfast, retiring in 1981. She was a Past Matron of Happy Valley Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, and gardening. She was a good cook, well-known for her molasses cookies. In March 2015, Ethel received the Boston Post Cane as the oldest resident of Brooks. In addition to her parents, Ethel was predeceased by her husband Clayton Pattee, her daughter, Kathleen Ellis; eight brothers, Earl Raven, Seth Raven, Carl Raven, Lawrence Raven, William Raven, Harold “Mike” Raven, Daniel Raven, John “Jack” Raven; and four sisters, Alfreda Moore, Edith Porter, Lila Bryant, and Ferne Thompson. Ethel is survived by her two daughters, Linda Pattee of Brooks and Jacqueline Bradeen of Unity; six grandchildren, Emily Ellis of Bangor, Eileen Ellis of Brooks, Clayton Ellis and his wife Carla of Brooks, Deidre Ellis of West Milford, NJ, Billie MacLean and her husband Aaron of Ashland, Rex Bradeen and his wife Heather of Jericho, VT; ten great-grandchildren, Hillary Throckmorton of Boston, MA, Ellis Throckmorton of Bangor, Sydney, Micaela, and Isaac Ellis of Brooks, Vaughn Hurst of West Milford, NJ, Wes and Owen Bradeen of Jericho, VT, Kayla and Macy MacLean of Ashland; and a special son-in-law, Vaughn Ellis of Brooks. Ethel is also survived by one brother, Merle Raven and his wife Val of Augusta; three sisters, Mabel Larrabee, Judy Porter and Minnie Raven all of Thorndike; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In keeping with her wishes, services and interment will be private and held at convenience of the family. If desired, memorial gifts may be made to the Arthur Jewell Health Center, 55 Reynolds Road, Brooks or to the William and Pearl Raven Scholarship Fund, c/o Mount View High School, Thorndike, Maine. The family would like to thank the staff at Harbor Hill and Beacon Hospice for their care and consideration during Ethel’s last days.
