Obituary of Wilbur B. Millay
Wilbur B. Millay, 90 died peacefully Feb. 6, 2017 at Windward
Gardens.
Born in Liberty, Maine he was the son of Earl & Gladys Howes Millay. He
attended schools in Liberty and entered the United States Army during
WWII. During his time of service, Wilbur reached the rank of Corporal while
assigned as a Supply Clerk attached to the 84th Ordinance Co. After the
bombing of Nagasaki, Japan, Cpl. Millay was on temporary assignment with
the Military Police as part of the peacekeeping mission.
Following his military service he worked in the poultry business for several
years before buying his own poultry farm in Union, Maine. After selling his
farm in Union, Wilbur went to work at the Camden Tannery until his
retirement many years later.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Ardith and infant son Keith, his
sisters Marguerite Benner, Arabelle Knight, Bertha Jackson, his brothers
George, Clyde and Arnold Millay.
He is survived by his daughter Ginny Millay and her husband Dave
Franclemont of Rockland, son Roger and his wife Debra Millay of Union, son
Michael and his wife Deborah Millay also of Union, granddaughter Lori Babb
of Virginia, grandson Corey and wife Meghan Millay of Alabama and Caitlin
Millay Meservey of Spruce Head, Maine, as well as great grandchildren,
many nieces, nephews and extended family.
We would like to thank Windward Gardens for the wonderful care during his
stay and passing at their long term unit. He will be sadly missed by many for
his wonderful sense of humor and quick wit.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday March 4, 2017 at Riposta Funeral Home 182 Waldo Ave. Belfast, ME.
