Obituary of Margaret J Seekins

Margaret J. Seekins passed away at the Knox Center in Rockland on November 16, 2016. She was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on January 1, 1924, the daughter of William R. and Margaret J. (Noonan) Savage. Margaret moved with her parents to the family farm in Waldo, Maine. She was the oldest of six children and was very close to her sisters, Mary (Marie), Dorothy, Edna and Phyllis, and her brother, Robert. Margaret worked at the local laundry, Darres Restaurant and for thirty two years at the local shoe factories. She then worked at Penobscot Frozen Foods until she was in her seventies. While working at Darres, Margaret met the love of her life and future husband, Hollis L.Seekins. Together they resided at their home in Northport for many years. Margaret looked forward to visits each summer from her siblings, who had moved out of state, and their families. She enjoyed spending time with her many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Margaret loved to travel. She enjoyed a trip to Nevada to visit her brother-in-law and his family, a trip to Hawaii and a trip to England with her sister Phyllis. She also took a trip to Hollywood with her husband that she won through a contest centered on the daytime soap opera, “Santa Barbara” in 1989. She even made a cameo appearance on the show. She was always game for anything. She went parasailing while in Hawaii, and she rode the ferris wheel at the fair at the age of 91. Margaret was always on the go with her many friends, and she enjoyed many fun gatherings on the Tuft's Road in Belfast. She always looked forward to the annual fourth of July picnics by her pond with her family. She will be remembered as a vibrant, fun loving person. Margaret believed education was very important, and was proud to have earned her GED in 1992, at the age of 68. Margaret loved gardening. She always had a large vegetable garden, and her home was surrounded by beautiful flowers each summer. Margaret was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband Hollis, her sisters Dorothy Porrello, Edna Civitello, and Phyllis McAvey, her step-daughters, Irene Noble and Charlotte Colby, her granddaughters, Tracey J. Marshall Feener, Holly Ann Wark, and Anne Wellman, and her grandsons Robert Paige, Jr. and David Canning. She is survived by her daughter, Holly Louine Marshall of Camden, her sister Mary (Marie) Bucklin of Belfast, her brother Robert Savage of Virginia, her son-in-law Sewell Colby of Liberty, her sister-in-law, Ava Jackson of Lincolnville, and by many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the employees at Merry Gardens and the Knox Center for their care of Margaret. A special thank you goes to Cathy Abbot for the extra love and attention she gave her. Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, December 2, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast. A memorial service will follow at 2 PM. Private interment will be in Grove Cemetery in Belfast.
