Obituary of Geoffrey P. Spears

BELFAST-Geoffrey Paul Spears, 64, of Belfast died unexpectedly on Friday, October 28, 2016. He was the loving husband of Marcia Ladd-Spears, with whom he shared fifteen years of marriage. Born in Beverly MA on September 12, 1952, he was the son of Priscilla Spears of Beverly and the late George P. Spears. He was raised and educated in Danvers and Beverly and was a graduate of Beverly High School and Merrimack College with a degree in Business Administration. He owned Northeast Tire Corporation in the 1980’s and was an independent yacht broker specializing in sailboats over 30 feet until 1990. At the time of his death he owned and operated Automotive & Marine Details, Ltd. in Topsfield, MA. A resident of Maine for several years, he loved being on the water, especially boating on Penobscot Bay. He was a car and plane enthusiast and a dog lover who lovingly cared for his dog, Toby. Most of all Geoff was a caring and dedicated father, husband and son who went to extraordinary means to care for his mother. He cherished his grandchildren and was lovingly known as “Gubby” by them. In addition to his wife and mother he leaves two children, Robin Spears and her fiancé Chris Charron and Ryan Spears and his fiancée Kathleen Collins, all of Beverly, two step-daughters, Cassie Bilodeau and her husband Steve of Sidney ME and Kristin Post and her fiancé Ryan Goodwin, a sister Doreen Bussone and her husband David of Florida and seven grandchildren, Zoey and Maya Spears, Jacob and Ryan Bilodeau, Ethan and Ashton Post and Freyja Goodwin. He also is survived by his mother-in-law Edie Ladd, sisters-in-law Annette Williams and Maureen Ladd, brothers-in-law Dan Ladd and Sam Ladd all of Belfast. He leaves many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and the mother of his children, Rebecca Merry Berry. Geoff’s wonderful sense of humor, his work ethic and his gentle heart will be missed by all who knew him. His Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at 5:30 pm in Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue Belfast. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be prior to the service from 4-5:30. Burial will be private.
