Obituary of Russell Starrett
APPLETON - Russell A. Starrett, age 84, a resident of Gurneytown Road, died at home on Friday, October 7, 2016, with family by his side following a brief period of declining health. Mr. Starrett was born June 13, 1932, in Warren, to Roland and Mildred Starrett. Russell attended school in Warren and throughout his lifetime, worked primarily as a welder at BIW and Bridge Corp.
Later in life, he especially enjoyed visiting “his girls” at the Come Spring Café and the Common Market. Russell was also a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan.
“Grampy Trouble”or “Pup”, as he was affectionately known, was married to Delia F. Starrett for almost 56 years, prior to her passing in 2008. Survived by his 8 children: Curtis Starrett and his wife, Mary, of Appleton, Crystal Stone of Montville, Craig Starrett his wife, Jill, of Belfast, Cary Starrett of Saco, Randall Starrett of South Carolina, Vaughn Starrett of Appleton, Lorraine Hilt of Appleton, and Ricky Starrett and his wife, Darlene, of Appleton; two sisters, Susan Meklin, and her husband “Oakie” of Warren, and Marion Mink, and husband Linnie, of Appleton/Florida; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; Delia’s surviving family; amazing friends and neighbors; and his beloved Maine Coon cat, Percy.
Per his wishes, Russell will be cremated and a private internment, next to Delia, will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery in Appleton. Friends and family are welcome to a Celebration of Life on Sunday, October 16th at the Come Spring Café from 3:30-6:30pm. In lieu of flowers and in Russell and Delia’s memory, donations may be made to the Maine Cancer Foundation, 170 US Route 1, Falmouth, ME 04105.
