Obituary of Sandra Ellen Foster

Sandra “Sandy” Ellen Harrington Foster, 79, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026, with her loving family by her side.

Sandy was born August 14, 1947, in Hope, Maine, the daughter of Leroy Harrington, Jr. and Dorothy Hughes Harrington. Her family later moved to Washington, where she attended Prescott Memorial School and graduated from Union High School in 1966.

Sandy married her high school sweetheart, Donald Raymond Foster, Sr., on November 25, 1967, shortly after Donald returned home from serving in the Vietnam War. Together, they built their home in Washington, where they raised their three children, Janice, Scott, and Donny, and shared nearly 59 years of marriage.

Sandy worked at Sylvania in Waldoboro before becoming a stay-at-home mother. She later operated a daycare from her home for approximately 25 years. Caring for children was much more than a job to Sandy. She welcomed them into her home and heart and loved them as though they were her own.

Family was the center of Sandy’s life. She enjoyed gardening, yardwork, crocheting, refinishing furniture, camping, and, most of all, spending time with those she loved.

Sandy was predeceased by her parents, Leroy Harrington Jr, and Dorothy Harrington; her parents-in-laws, Winfield Foster Jr. and Rachel Foster; her sisters-in-law, Donna Cram and Annette Harrington; and her nephew, Shawn Bartlett.

She is survived by her loving husband, Don of Appleton; daughter, Janice Esancy and husband Walter of Appleton; sons, Scott Foster and wife Kim of Washington, and Donny Foster and wife Pattie of Washington; seven grandchildren, Ryan Esancy and partner Holly, Melanie Smith and husband Ben, Kristen Denman and husband Zach, Keith Foster and partner Amber, Christopher Parlin and wife Sarah, Corey Nickles, and Brandon Jewett; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Gage Esancy, Aubrey Esancy, Cody Edgecomb, Gunnar Smith, Blakely Smith, Lucas Denman, Landon Denman, Isabella Denman, Ava Foster, Makenzie Foster, Amelia Parlin, Dylan Nickles, and Lyla Nickles.

Sandy is also survived by her loving siblings,  sister, Susan Rogowski and husband Dan of Washington; brothers, Lee Harrington III and wife Pam of Warren, Bruce Harrington and wife Linda of Georgia, and David Harrington of Washington; sister-in-law, Brenda Williams of Jefferson; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Her family held a special place in Sandy’s heart. She treasured watching them grow, sharing time with them, and celebrating their milestones.   She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt.  Sandy’s greatest joy was her family, and the love, kindness, and the memories they shared will remain a treasured part of her legacy for generations to come.

Her Celebration of Life will be on Sunday, September 13th at 2:00 pm at the Liberty Community Hall, Pinnacle  Road, Liberty, Maine.  Memories and condolences may be shared with her family on her tribute wall.
