Daniel Ryan

Obituary of Daniel Walter Ryan

Daniel Walter Ryan

Dan/Danny at the age of 65 was unexpectedly taken from this world on June 10, 2024.  Daniel was born February 5, 1959, to Barbara S. and Irvin D. Ryan Jr.  He was 5th in a line of 6 children.  Most of his life was lived in Belfast, graduating from BAHS in 1978.  After graduating, he joined the Army and returned with an honorable discharge.

Dan had various jobs throughout his life with carpentry and landscape being the biggest part.  He enjoyed nature and wildlife.  Danny would spend time at the muck feeding the fish and birds or parked to just watch nature.

Over the years he touched many people’s lives.  One friend Rodrick Hall wrote:  “I want to say goodbye to my good friend Daniel Ryan who passed away 6/10/24 under tumultuous circumstances.  Dan was a great man who helped everyone in our neighborhood while we were growing up.  If he liked you, he would do anything in the world for you.  He and my mom taught me about random acts of kindness.  Dan had been struggling with his health physically and mentally.  I am upset about the situation in which he lost his life for both sides.  My heart goes out to his family and to the law enforcement that was brought into this mess.  Our mental health care system is broken.  If you have loved ones or friends who struggle with mental health, please reach out to them. Rest in peace my friend.”

Dan was predeceased by his parents and stepfather Norman Miller.  Surviving are his siblings, Bonami “Bonnie Ryan” Von Rumphf, Ervin “Ernie brother” Ryan, Doreen & Robert Snow, Cindy & Patrick “Pat” Crowley, and Kevin Ryan; 3 nephews, 3 nieces, 4 great nieces, 5 great nephews, 1 great great niece and 1 great great nephew.

Thank you Homeworthy (formerly Knox County Homeless Coalition) for all of your support, help, and friendship to Daniel over the years.

Per Daniel’s wishes his ashes will be buried beside his father. Burial will be at 11am on August 3rd, 2024, in the Seaview Cemetery on Warrenton St. Rockland ME.  A celebration of life will follow at the Shriner’s Club on Northport Ave., Belfast at 2pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Daniel’s name may be made to any organization that preserves the land and animals.  Memories and condolence may be shared on his tribute wall.
