Obituary of Robert P. Andersen
Robert P. Andersen, 82, of Belfast passed away unexpectedly on January 16, 2012 at the Waldo County General Hospital. He was born on April 26, 1929 in Stoneham, Massachusetts to Henry and Metta (Potter) Andersen. Robert graduated with a BA in Economics from the University of Massachusetts and a Masters in Education from Northeastern University. After graduation from college he entered the Air Force and was stationed in Japan, where he later returned to teach at the American School in Japan. Robert also taught at Thayer Academy in Braintree, Massachusetts and retired in 1996 from the Randolph, Massachusetts school system as a teacher of mathematics.
He was a lifelong learner who enjoyed Senior College at the Hutchinson Center in Belfast and serving his community on the school board of SAD 34 and RSU 20 from 2001-2011.
Robert is predeceased by his parents and brother H. Gardner Andersen. He is survived by his wife Sabra Goff Andersen of Belfast; his children Henry Andersen of Tokyo, Japan, and Cynthia Blank of San Francisco, California; two grandchildren, Marcela Andersen and Filipe Andersen; one niece, Jean Murdough and two nephews, Harry Andersen and John Andersen; and many grand nieces and nephews.
Memorial service details will be announced at a later date. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in his memory to The American School in Japan, 1-1-1 Nomizu Chofu-shi Tokyo 182-0031 Japan.
